STEP 2
Please read the below role descriptions and choose the one you resonate with the most. Then download the correlating audition scene for this character in the AUDITION SCENES folder from the link below.
We would like you to learn your characters lines off by heart, and perform this scene as a self tape (filming instructions below). You should perform the lines as you might say them, while also considering the role description.
ADELAIDE loves drawing, crafting, painting, sewing - anything where she can make pretty things with her hands. She loves gardening in the school vegetable garden, as long as she’s got gloves on so dirt doesn’t get in her fingernails. Adelaide doesn’t like dirt. Or germs. Or mess. She’s very neat. Adelaide can be shy and is not a fan of public speaking, but that doesn’t mean she won’t stick up for herself. She can pretty feisty. And sarcastic. She’s a very loyal friend and really good at doing hairstyles for other people.
STEVE loves cricket, footy, netball, basketball, but mainly cricket. He’s really good at it. But also good at school. He’s really good at maths - especially long division. Steve loves hanging out with his friends, and gets worried when he’s not hanging out with his friends. Steve hates missing out on anything. (Except trying new foods. Yuk.) When he’s feeling left out, he can sometimes tell fibs. But never bad ones - Steve would never hurt anyone. Steve is very enthusiastic which makes him a good leader, and a really fun friend.
BONNIE loves chess, playing with her friends (even though they don’t like chess), reading, spelling and maths. Bonnie is very smart but sometimes can lack common sense. She can be gullible, easily believing anything she hears. Although she’s a good follower, Bonnie is also a natural leader and will speak her mind forcefully when it counts. Bonnie can get a bit worried sometimes and when she gets really worried she can get herself in a tangle. Bonnie is kind and generous, and very excitable. She can talk a lot. Bonnie wishes she was a little less clumsy and a little less messy. She can’t ever seem to do her hair neatly.
MASON loves rules, especially rules that he’s made up. Mason is a fantastic organiser and loves organising games and activities that everyone can be a part of. And can get upset when people don’t want to be a part of it. Mason’s Mum says he’s ‘highly strung’ because he can get very easily worked up about things, which is something he’s trying to get better at. But, Mason also doesn’t see what’s wrong with having a lot of structure and control in his life. And everyone else’s. Mason is super smart, good at sport, an excellent leader - and a really good friend.
IVY loves playing games with her friends, any kind of sport, skateboarding, and baking. She doesn’t love paying attention, listening in class, homework, and sitting still. Ivy is very funny and has a huge imagination; she is so much fun to be around. She can also be a little bit annoying (because she doesn’t love paying attention, listening or sitting still). Ivy is always losing things; she’s messy and usually has stains on her clothes. But, Ivy is always surprising. Like when she brings her baked goods to school - she makes the most beautiful cupcakes and slices you’ve ever seen.
ARTHUR is a creative spirit. He loves singing, dancing, pottery - it doesn’t matter if he’s not the best at these things, it’s all about his own enjoyment. Arthur can get totally lost in a book or immersed in playing a character for hours. That being said he adores performing for his friends or, preferably, the whole class, and he’s not very good at noticing if they’re not enjoying it. He’s working on that. Arthur doesn’t mind if he’s different from other people, like how he doesn’t like sugar the same as all the other kids, or like how he sometimes comes to school in costume. Arthur is very fun to be around and is a really good friend.
